

Stenotech, essentially Tungsten Carbide, is a new protective
coating with excellent performances against wear, abrasion, erosion, fretting
and corrosion and very high Vickers hardness value ( from 1300 HV to 1500 HV).
Stenotech's properties make it to resist very well from erosion caused by impact
angles close to 90°.
It is also suitable in applications which require resistance against
micro-impacts.
Corrosion resistance can also be increased by adding a small percent of Chrome.
This coating can be applied on every kind of metal substrate, from steel to
aluminium and other alloys with a temperature range from -148°F to 932°F.
Coating thickness goes from 0.004 inches to 0.02 inches.
Its outstanding hardness, not comparable to any other material, gives to coated
surfaces a greater resistance and after grinding and polishing the surface can
obtain a value of roughness of 0.05 Ra, suitable for applications where porosity
requested is < 1%.
The requirement to increase the performances of single components subjected to
wear is necessary to reach a high protection level and to create a custom-made
coating which can increase the life of the component and cut-off the service
time. Before production, this protective coating was tested in TWR's laboratory
for at least 12 months.
Stenotech can also be used as an alternative to hard chrome plating, increasing
the resistance to any wear types and its high adhesive strength make it to
resist to higher load reducing the risk of cracks formation.
